Year 10 - Art 3D: Ceramics and Sculpture

Overview

In this subject, students will apply Creative Practice to develop their own three-dimensional visual responses through ceramics and sculpture. They will explore a variety of hand-building techniques in clay, using these methods to create unique 3D artworks.

Students will also learn about glazing techniques and how these can be used to enhance the visual impact of their ceramic pieces through colour, pattern and texture.

Students will be introduced to sculptural forms such as relief sculpture and found-object sculpture.

They will explore how Australian artists from diverse cultural backgrounds—including Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander artists—communicate ideas and meaning through their work. Students will study influential artists and begin developing their own concepts for three-dimensional artworks.

Throughout the subject, students will engage in reflection and evaluation, critically analysing their creative decisions and considering ways to refine and improve their work.
