Overview

The Certificate III in Screen and Media is a nationally accredited qualification for students who wish to be part of the rapidly growing Multimedia Industry. It is a unique blend of Art and IT, and will appeal to students who want to try their hand at various forms of art digital, or turn their technical expertise into wonderful digital works of art. The Certificate will provide practical experience with industry standard software and assessments will be based on creative arts industry briefs, giving students a grounded experience of working in the field. In this certificate, students will learn a variety of software in the Adobe Creative Suite for the purposes of creating digital art and marketing materials. This includes advanced image editing (Photoshop), character and logo design (Illustrator), 2D animation (Animate), and web development (Dreamweaver).

Course Structure

The Certificate III has 11 units of competency to be completed over two years at St Francis Xavier College Beaconsfield Campus. Students who successfully complete the first year of this certificate will gain two VCE Units. Students who complete this course and the end-of-year examination will gain a Study Score which will contribute to their ATAR score for tertiary enrolment.

Students who do not complete Year 1 of the course will not be allowed to continue onto Year 2.

Assessment tasks

Assessment tasks have been designed to reinforce and extend our students’ knowledge and skills within the parameters of each unit’s learning outcomes and criteria as prescribed in the training package. Students will be assessed, tested, and expected to demonstrate skills as required by each unit of competency. Assessment is competency based – this means students are judged against prescribed standards rather than the performance of others. This places emphasis on the learner’s ability to receive, respond and process information to achieve competency.

Prerequisite

There are no prerequisite subjects, but an interest in the creative arts, multimedia and animation is essential. Also, a commitment to the two (2) year course is required.
